Over the years, Ciel Bergman has searched for beauty, beginning her career in San Francisco, continuing as a professor of painting, through numerous solo and group exhibitions and eventually settling in the shadow of the Pedernal in northern New Mexico. She had visited the area once before in 1972 and was invited by Georgia O'Keeffe to sit in the late artist's chair on the roof of her Ghost Ranch home. "Being in the shadow of the Pedernal has not consciously affected my work, but it has definitely set an inner emotional tone of reverence, providing me with courage and humility at the same time." Her latest series of paintings, "Antidotes," signifies her deep concern about the destruction of the planet and its peoples and her "offering up of a healing prayer," through the medium of paint.
