Ciel Bergman "Blood Milk and Water" catalogue available $30

Linda Durham Contemporary Art in Santa Fe is pleased to debut "Blood Milk and Water", an exhibition of new paintings by Ciel Bergman. The exhibition remains on view on view through November 13th.

"I find it tragic to live in a culture where scientific imagination is applauded and artistic imagination is suspect, for they derive from the same search," notes Ms. Bergman. Writing on Ms. Bergman's new body of work, dedicated to the struggle for the re-discovery of beauty, Wendy Steiner of University of Pennsylvania states: "An artist of such soulfulness and humor has much to teach us in this time of cultural change. In short, culture is reinventing the meaning of femininity, pleasure, and beauty. We must admit that the 'return of beauty' is a very crude generalization. More instructive are the scores of individual histories that lie behind it - all those diverse artistic careers that started out under the thumb of modernism, only to proceed under the spell of beauty. One such metamorphosis appears in the work of Ciel Bergman."

Ciel Bergman graduated with honors from the San Francisco Art Institute and has been awarded the LOUIS COMFORT TIFFANY AWARD. Her work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York as well as at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Ms. Bergmanís work is represented in numerous respected private and corporate collections throughout the world. She is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art.
