One day, while walking Kisses, a deaf Jack Russell I adopted several years ago, a small black dog approached us. Rio, as she came to be called, was skin and bones. Her coat was filthy and matted and all she wore was a collar with no tag and a chain hanging from the collar. After futile attempts to locate her owner, Rio became a member of our family. She was a mix, but what? Where did she get that overbite and curled tail?…a bit of Pug perhaps? And the course hair…a bit of Schnauzer? And what about her very tall legs and big, big ears?…maybe a bit of….Jack Rabbit? If she weren't clearly a dog, from her jumpy personality, I'd have thought she was a monkey…like an organ grinder's pet! It became apparent to me that other "mutt" owners were probably just as curious as I was about the ancestry of their unique pets. And so, MalibuMutz was born. |
