The Albuquerque Economic Development, Inc. (AED) is a private, non-profit organization designed to recruit quality companies to the Albuquerque Metro Area and assists with the retention and expansion of existing industry. AED has been in existence for over 40 years and has recruited more than 200 companies to the Albuquerque area. All information used on this page was taken from AED's website. The Albuquerque metro area accounts of nearly half of all the economic activity in New Mexico. Albuquerque was ranked the most creative mid-size city in the US by Dr. Richard Florida, author of The Creative Class, and in 2004 was named the 12th Best City in the Nation for Doing Business by Forbes Magazine. Fueled by more than 750,000 citizens living in the Albuquerque Metro, the area's high-tech economy is one of the brightest in the United States. Major manufacturing companies such as Intel, GE, and General Mills all call Albuquerque home, as well as a host of financial, insurance, and healthcare offices. The area is well endowed with large public institutions such as the University of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories, and the area's largest employer, Kirtland Air Force Base. It is no wonder that Albuquerque and the surrounding areas are growing daily, providing the community with a steady flow of business and employment opportunities. Rio Rancho is a dynamic, fast-growing city located just minutes north of Albuquerque in Sandoval County. The "City of Vision" encompasses 73 square miles and bustles with over 50,000 residents. Rio Rancho has a well-developed plan to meet the rapidly expanding commercial and residential development in the area. For additional information go to www.rredc.org. |
